Calming & Relaxing

Essential oils have been very effectively in calming and soothing our mind, thus help to relax our stressful body and mind. Aromatherapy which has gain popularity is one of the reason that people are gaining interest toward essential oil. Most people has not doubt about essential oil’s ability in relaxing our body, soul and mind, but there are many more benefits that we can derive from essential oils.

Inhaling of essential oil is one of the best way to relax your mind, as essential oils are made up of minute molecules that can be very easily absorbed, even by inhaling. When you smell an essential oil, cilia and receptor cells in the olfactory organ receive the aroma and send signals to the limbic system of the brain, which is the center of memory and emotion. It also is connected to areas of the brain that control blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, hormone balance, and more.

Research has confirmed that lavender produces slight calming, soothing, and sedative effects when its scent is inhaled. Scientific evidence suggests that aromatherapy with lavender may slow the activity of the nervous system, improve sleep quality, promote relaxation, and lift mood in people suffering from sleep disorders. Studies also suggest that massage with essential oils, particularly lavender, may result in improved sleep quality, more stable mood, better concentration, and reduced anxiety.

In one study, people who received massage with lavender felt less anxious and more positive than those who received massage alone. Several small studies suggest that lavender aromatherapy may help reduce agitation in people with dementia. Lavender flowers have also been approved in Germany as a tea for insomnia, restlessness, and nervous stomach irritations.

Apart from Lavender, other essential oils that are also effective in calming and relaxing your mind and soul are Rosemary, Peppermint, Ylang Ylang and Frankincense.

Recommended to use a diffuser to diffuse essential oil for relaxation, or inhale directly from bottle for instant boost of mood and relief of depression. You can also dilute these essential oil with carrier oil such as sweet almond, jojoba oil and use for massaging. Otherwise, the simplest method will be to drop 2-3 drops onto your palm, rub together, inhale from your palm then rub onto your temples and the back of your ears to relieve anxiety.
