Personal Care

The benefits of essential oil can be extended to our daily uses personal care products. While it may be difficult to replace our common personal care products with DIY products using natural oil and essential oil, you can include essential oil to some of these personal care products for better results.

Dental Care: For a fresher breath, add a drop of either peppermint, spearmint or Eucalyptus to your toothpaste and brush as usual. These essential oil, due to its antiseptic properties, is very useful in dental care. It also eliminates bad breath and helps teeth and gums fight off hazardous germs. It is common to find these essential oil as part of the ingredients.

Dandruff / Itchy Hair: Add a a few drop of either peppermint or rosemary to your shampoo when washing your hair. Peppermint oil is very useful for hair care as it gives a cooling effect to the head, while removing dandruff and lice. Peppermint oil has antiseptic, regenerative, and stimulating effects, which means that it can relieve the scalp of irritation and dry skin, stimulate hair growth for those suffering from baldness, and give relatively healthy hair a shiny, fresh look.

Hair Growth: To promote hair growth, drop a few drops of either Rosemary, Lavender and Ylang Ylang onto affected area.    Gently massage these oil into the scalp for a few minutes and let it stay for 10-20 minutes before washing it off.  Rosemary and lavender can all help naturally thicken hair by stimulating the hair follicles.

Ylang Ylang can be used as natural treatment for alopecia and thinning hair.

Skin Lotion: Mix a few drop of either lemon, lavender, Geranium, Frankincense, to your unscented facial creams or body lotions.  Or dilute these essential oil with an carrier oil such as jojoba, sweet almond etc to become a natural skin lotion that helps to improve tone of skin, scar reduction, balance sebum production, soften and soothe the skin.

Deodorant: Home-made deodorant is now a hit, with many people opting for DIY deodorant over off-the-shelves deodorants and antiperspirants that may contain aluminum, which has been linked to breast cancer. Our underarms are highly susceptible because they absorb much of what is put on them.  Adding your favourite essential oil to baking soda is the simplest way to keep your arm pit clean from bacteria.
